A message from the Bourton Village Hall Trustees

Many people in the village are clearly disappointed by the decision of the Parish Council to select the Jubilee Field as the preferred site for a new village hall which is why the current Trustees of the hall feel it is important to explain why they wholeheartedly and unanimously support this decision:

  • Many fewer residents will be affected by the construction and subsequent operation of a new hall and associated new housing.
  • There is a better opportunity to win the necessary grant funding on a site with fewer constraints brought about by a central location.
  • For the same reason there will be a better opportunity for the hall to be self-sustaining and less potential for becoming a burden on the Parish.
  • There are likely to be cross-benefits in the long term from greater proximity to the Church and St George’s School.

The Trustees would urge everyone to note that:

  • There were a number of events held over five weeks at which all those interested were able to make their views known. A wide range of comments were made and all were posted on the website for all to see.
  • Trustees have come to their individual views by weighing up all of the relevant factors, including but not limited to the views of the 90 or so residents who responded.
  • The re-positioning of the proposed new hall at the bottom of the Sandways site came about through dialogue between the agent for the site and NDDC planning officers in order to overcome the problems associated with a position at the top of the slope. The covering letter to the present Planning Application for that site confirms this.

With this important milestone achieved we now ask that Bourton’s many hard-working and talented people come together as one unified team to ensure current and future generations are provided with a new hall the whole village can enjoy and take pride in.

Signed:

The Trustees of the Bourton Village Hall Charitable Incorporated Organisation.
